From Studio to Spotlight: My Journey with the Kansas City Artists Coalition

Hey art lovers and creative souls! Let me introduce you to the Kansas City Artists Coalition (KCAC) – the coolest nonprofit that’s been changing artists’ lives for nearly 50 incredible years! When KCAC’s founding artists gathered in 1975 to discuss how to break through isolation and elitism, they created something powerful—an artist-centered organization that continues to evolve.

As a Kansas City photographer and artist who’s passionate about creative storytelling, joining the Kansas City Artists Coalition (KCAC) has been more than just a professional milestone—it’s been a transformative experience. KCAC isn’t just an organization; it’s a vibrant community dedicated to championing local artists and pushing creative boundaries.

Why Supporting KCAC Matters for Kansas City Artists

Supporting local artists has become increasingly crucial in the face of AI’s growing impact on the art world. As AI art generators threaten to replicate artists’ styles without consent or compensation, local artists face potential loss of income and dilution of their artistic identity.

By investing in local art and supporting organizations like KCAC, we nurture creativity, preserve cultural diversity, and foster personal connections within our communities. Your support empowers artists allowing them to continue their craft and contributing to the local economy. It’s critical keeping a human hand directly involved in the artistic process. Other wise we loose the originality and emotional depth that AI cannot replicate.

Details about KCAC’s Annual Art Auction

The 42nd Annual Auction,, scheduled for February 22nd, 2025, is a pivotal fundraising event generating approximately half of KCAC’s operating revenue. If you are an artist and want to learn more about donating to this years auction (or future auctions) visit the KCAC website to learn more.

Catherine Rybak is this year’s theme artist for art auction. Catherine is a vibrant illustrator and printmaker whose artistic journey weaves together nature’s beauty and playful creativity. Rybak brings her distinctive style of capturing animals, birds, fish, and plants with an infectious sense of joy. See more of her work & learn more by visiting her on Instagram.

In an era where AI challenges the traditional art world, our active support for local artists becomes a powerful statement about the irreplaceable value of human creativity and the importance of maintaining a thriving, diverse artistic ecosystem

A Community of Support for artists by artists

What truly sets KCAC apart is its dedication to artists. As one exhibiting artist beautifully said, “KCAC gives out chances of a lifetime like they’re cups of water.” That’s the spirit that drives this incredible organization. Whether you’re an emerging artist or a seasoned professional, KCAC represents the heartbeat of Kansas City’s creative community.

Here’s to continued growth, inspiration, and artistic excellence!
