'Emergence from darkness to light, an exploration of growth thru pain'

ARTIST STATEMENT

I stood exposed. My vulnerability & imperfections unveiled before my camera. Breathing deeply, I allowed myself to feel the pain of self doubt as I deliberately pressed the trigger.

The last self portraits I created were taken in college when I'd yet to discover who I wanted to become.

The next year I met my X-husband, I stopped creating self portraits. I began my business and stopped using my art to express & convey my thoughts & feelings.

For 20 years, false narratives altered my perspective. These narratives kept me from really seeing myself.

This series explores the growth journey from heartbreak to growth when a woman break free from the roles assigned by men.
